On the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2022, the man driving a stolen Muni bus jumped out. The bus kept rolling through the Mission.
An officer ran aboard and stopped it at 18th and Guerrero before it reached oncoming traffic, according to SFPD. ABC7’s witness video shows part of the drive through the neighborhood. Police initially estimated that the bus had hit about ten vehicles.
The incident began around 7:53 p.m. on November 25 at Cortland and Mission. Police said a passenger assaulted the driver. The driver and passengers got off, and the suspect drove away. Officers caught up with the bus near 18th and Mission.
After jumping out, the suspect ran. Officers detained Rickey Dancy, then 36, at 19th and Guerrero. The bus driver was treated and released; two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest, SFPD said.
The District Attorney announced charges five days later, including carjacking, attempted carjacking, vandalism and hit-and-run. That announcement does not say how the case ultimately ended.
