At the Dolores hill bomb on July 9, 2022, a Waymo became an impromptu dance floor. Skateboarders surrounded the car beside the park, and people climbed on top.
The car wasn’t driving itself. A person was at the wheel. SFGATE’s coverage includes a link to the footage and reports that the car was being driven manually. Waymo said its driver got out safely.
The hill bomb draws skaters to the steep streets around Dolores Park, with crowds watching from the sidelines. The footage shows what happened when a car ended up in the middle of it.
There’s also a police record from 20th and Dolores that evening. At 7:17 p.m., dispatch received a traffic-hazard call at 20th and Dolores, later classified as “SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE.” CAD 221902357 on SFPDCalls links to report 220463472, filed under “Driving, Stunt Vehicle/Street Racing.”
The date and location fit the hill bomb. The record never mentions a Waymo, though, so we can’t say this was the call about the car in the video.
